Calorie tracking from a single photo.
Photograph your meal. Get calories in seconds.
PocketCalorie is an AI calorie tracking app for iPhone. Take a photo of your meal and it estimates the calories, protein, carbs and fat of every ingredient in seconds, with a confidence score so you know when to double-check. No food database, no barcodes, no logging fatigue — and the same account works on this website.

How AI calorie tracking works
Three steps, about ten seconds a meal. The camera does the logging; you only check the result.
Snap your meal
Open the app and take one photo of the plate from above. No searching a food database, no typing portion sizes, no weighing anything.
Check the AI calorie estimate
In a few seconds every ingredient comes back with its grams, calories, protein, carbs and fat. If something looks wrong, correct it before you save.
Log it and watch your week
Save it to breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack. Home shows calories left today, and Analytics turns your food log into weekly trends.
Why photo calorie tracking beats manual logging
Most people stop calorie tracking within weeks because logging is slow. Typing every ingredient and guessing portions takes minutes a meal; a photo takes seconds and works for home-cooked food that has no barcode.
| Typing it in | Barcode scanning | PocketCalorie photo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time per meal | Search, pick and adjust every item | Quick, but packaged food only | About 10 seconds for the whole plate |
| Home-cooked meals | Guess each ingredient yourself | Not possible — there is no barcode | Yes — read straight from the photo |
| Ingredient breakdown | Only what you type in | One product at a time | Every ingredient, with grams |
| Portion size | Estimated by you | From the label | Estimated from the photo, editable |
Everything you need to track calories
A calorie tracker is only useful if you keep using it. Everything below is in the app today to track calories, macros and water without the busywork — nothing here is a plan for later.
Calorie counts for every ingredient
Every scan comes back itemised — rice, dal, the spoon of ghee — each with its own calories and grams, and each one editable. You see where the number comes from, not just a total.
Protein, carbs and fat: a built-in macro tracker
Each meal is split into protein, carbs and fat, and Home shows your progress against a daily target for each, so calorie tracking and macro tracking happen in one place.
A daily calorie goal built from your body
Weight, age, sex, activity and goal produce your daily calorie goal and macro targets, with a calorie floor we will not go below. You can change the targets yourself in Profile → Daily targets.
Water tracking in one tap
One tap adds a glass. The daily water goal comes from your weight, and the button stops once you have hit it rather than letting the number run away.
Weekly trends, streaks and analytics
Daily calories against your goal, your logging streak, macro balance and which foods make up your week — across a week, a month or a year.
Your nutrition report as one PDF
Meals, days and averages in a single file you can keep, print or send to a dietitian. No ID numbers, no raw timestamps.
Works offline, syncs later
Your recent days are cached on the phone, so the app opens with your numbers on a bad connection instead of a blank screen, and syncs when you are back.
A gentle reminder on days you forget
If nothing is logged by the evening, one quiet notification reminds you. Log a meal and that evening's reminder is cancelled. Turn it off any time.
Group calorie tracking for your family and friends
Eat together is PocketCalorie’s group calorie tracker. Start a private group of up to 5 people — a family, a partner or friends — and see each other’s day at a glance: which meals are logged, calories against each person’s own target, and a supplements tick. Everyone logs the usual way, with a photo.
Invite the people you love
Name your group, then invite up to four others with a link, a 6-character code or a QR code. An invite link works for 7 days.
See everyone's day at a glance
Each person gets one card: breakfast, lunch and dinner ticks, calories against their own target, and a supplements tick. The board updates as people log.
Logging stays one photo
Everyone logs meals with the same AI photo scan, so the group view fills in without anyone typing a food diary. Calories are estimates, shown against each person's own daily target.
You choose what you share
Switch off meals, calories and target, or the supplements tick, whenever you like. Photos, food names and weight are never shared, and anyone can leave at any time.
Groups are part of the iPhone app, which is coming to the App Store. Calorie counts are AI estimates for everyday tracking, not medical advice. How groups handle your data is in the Privacy Centre, and questions are in the FAQ.

How accurate is AI calorie tracking?
Accurate enough to make daily calorie tracking easy, and honest about when it is not sure. PocketCalorie’s AI calorie counter is an estimate from a photo, not a lab measurement — so it shows its working and lets you correct it.
- A confidence score on every scan. High, medium or low, so you know which meals are worth a second look before you save them.
- Totals are calculated, not guessed. The AI recognises the food and estimates each portion; the calories are then worked out from each ingredient’s protein, carbs and fat (4, 4 and 9 kcal per gram), so the total always matches the breakdown.
- Every ingredient is editable. Change an item or its grams and your food log updates straight away.
- Who reads the photo. Meal photos are analysed by OpenAI’s models. Results are estimates for everyday tracking, not medical or nutritional advice.
Calorie tracking for every goal
Your daily calorie goal comes from your weight, age, sex and activity using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (with an average height for your sex — we don't ask for it), then moves with the goal you choose.
Calorie tracking for weight loss
Pick a pace and PocketCalorie sets a daily calorie goal below your maintenance level — never below a safe floor. Logging every meal with a photo is what keeps the deficit honest.
Maintaining your weight
Your target sits at maintenance, worked out from your body and activity. The weekly trend shows whether your average day actually lands there.
Gaining muscle
A gentle surplus with higher protein. The macro tracker shows whether you are reaching your protein target, not just your calories.

Calorie tracking FAQ
If your question isn’t here, email support@pocketcalorie.com or visit Support.
Is PocketCalorie a free calorie tracker?
You can start free. Every account gets 7 photo scans at no cost, with no card needed, so you can see whether the calorie estimates match your plate. Premium adds 20 scans a day, full analytics and a PDF report, with a free trial on both the monthly and yearly plans.
How do I track calories with a photo?
Open PocketCalorie, point your iPhone camera at the meal and take one photo. In a few seconds the app lists each ingredient with its grams, calories, protein, carbs and fat. Check it, correct anything that looks wrong, choose the meal, and save it to your food log.
How accurate is an AI calorie counter?
It is an estimate, not a lab measurement, and PocketCalorie tells you how sure it is. Every result has a confidence score, every ingredient is editable, and totals are calculated from each ingredient's macros rather than guessed. Shoot from above with the whole plate in frame for the best result.
Can I track protein, carbs and fat too?
Yes. Every scan breaks the meal into protein, carbs and fat as well as calories, and Home shows your progress against a daily target for each one. PocketCalorie works as a macro tracker and a calorie tracker in the same app.
Can I track calories with my family or friends?
Yes. PocketCalorie's Eat together groups let you start a private group of up to 5 people — a family, a partner or friends — and invite them with a link, a 6-character code or a QR code. Everyone logs meals with the usual photo scan, and the group board shows which meals each person has logged today, their calories against their own target, and a supplements tick. Groups are part of the iPhone app.
What can my group see about me?
Only what you choose to share: which meals you have logged today, your calories against your own target, and a supplements tick. You can switch each one off at any time, and photos, food names and weight are never shared. Anyone can leave a group whenever they like, and deleting your account removes you from it at once.
How is my daily calorie goal calculated?
From your own body, not a number picked for everyone. Your weight, age, sex, activity level and goal go into the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (using an average height for your sex, so there is no height question), adjusted for the pace you choose. A safety floor means the app will never set a target below 1,200 kcal, and you can set your own targets any time in Profile.
Does the calorie tracker work offline?
Partly. Scanning a meal needs a connection, because the photo is analysed online. Your recent days are stored on the phone, so the app opens with your numbers on a bad connection, and everything syncs once you are back online.
What happens to my meal photos?
Location data is removed from each photo on your phone before it is uploaded. The photo is sent to OpenAI to estimate its nutrition, and it is never sold or used for advertising. You can export everything you have logged, or delete your account and all of its data, from inside the app.
Is PocketCalorie available on Android?
Not yet. PocketCalorie is an iPhone app. Your account also works on this website, where the web dashboard shows your meals and trends in any browser.
How do I cancel my subscription or free trial?
Billing is handled entirely by Apple, so cancellation happens in iOS Settings — tap your name, then Subscriptions, then PocketCalorie, then Cancel. Cancelling during a free trial means you are never charged.
I paid, but the app still shows a paywall. What should I do?
Give it a few seconds, then open Profile and tap Restore purchases. Apple ties your subscription to your Apple Account, so restoring re-reads it. If it still doesn't unlock, email support@pocketcalorie.com with the Apple Account you paid with.
